2009 American Platinum Eagle Reverse

The United States Mint began a brand new reverse design series for the collector versions of the American Platinum Eagle. Over the course of six years, the core concepts of American democracy would be presented, based on the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States. The first year would carry the theme “A More Perfect Union”.

Four faces of diversity appear. Their hair and clothing is intertwined together. The American Eagle privy mark appears below the central inscription. Around the outer edge are indications of the weight, content, and legal tender face value of the coin. The reverse was designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. This was paired with John Mercanti’s obverse design.
