2005 “American Bison” Nickel

Issued for the Westward Journey Series, this 2005 nickel featured the image of a buffalo on the reverse. This signified the many Bison that Lewis and Clark saw during through expedition through the Louisiana Territory. It also pays homage to the popular Buffalo Nickel design issued from 1913 to 1938.
