2004 “Peace Medal” Jefferson Nickel

The Jefferson Nickel underwent a series of design changes to mark the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis & Clark’s expedition through the territory. The so-called Westward Journey Nickel series began with a reproduction of the design used for a Peace Medal given to Native Americans in the new territory.
