2006 Gold Buffalo Proof Obverse

The first collectible issue for the 24 karat Gold Buffalo coins. The design was based on James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel, also reused on the 2001 Silver Dollar commemorative issue. The proof coin was limited to a maximum authorized mintage of 300,000 coins and sold an impressive 246,267. This remains the highest mintage for a Proof Gold Buffalo to date.
